Police sent to Lexington 1 schools after threat of violence at Lexington Middle School

Lexington law enforcement personnel are being posted at Lexington One schools after a social media threat of violence.

Monday night officers took a report of a threat of violence sent through the social media app called SnapChat, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The violence was threatened to occur Tuesday at Lexington Middle School. Officers have been working overnight to verify this threat and continue to investigate, said the LPD.

As a precaution to the social media threat, additional officers have been assigned to the Lexington Middle School and will remain there until this investigation is complete.

Also, in reference to the SnapChat threat to Lexington Middle School, Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green has directed officers to be at all Lexington One schools in the Town of Lexington.

The threats are being taken seriously and the LPD is working with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and SLED to bring this case to a conclusion, according to the LPD.
