New 10,000-sq. ft. “Steel Hands” production brewery coming to Cayce

Plans for Steel Hands Brewing were announced Wednesday morning groundbreaking at 2350 Foreman St. in Cayce.

The new business is expected to be completed by the fall of 2018. It is described as a revitalization project and will serve as an anchor for future hospitality developments. It is expected to bring 30-to-40 new jobs. The owners are Darryl Frick, Scott Lambert and Brooks Smarr.

The brewery operation will consist of a 10,000-sq-ft. facility on a four-acre parcel. The building will have a 2,500-sq.ft. tasting and taproom with 150 seats; an outdoor gathering space; a restaurant; and support space with room for expansion in the future. There will be parking spaces too.

The plan is for the brewery to be open from Thursday until Sunday. Expected production capacity is 10,000 bottles of beer annually. Mark Walters, who has 22 years experience is the brewery’s brewmaster.

The site of the brewery is across from CMC steel. Lambert said much of the area’s history will be commemorated in the project.

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin noted that the site where the brewery is being built is the location of a three-day debris fire six years ago. Lambert described it as a “brownfield” site that had to be cleaned up before the brewery construction could begin.

According to a press release, the project will be one of the largest of its kind in the Midlands in the region and will function as a full-service venue for businesses, community members, planned gatherings, festivals and other social events.

Lambert, who is with Lambert Architecture and Construction Services stated, “We hope to see that this will serve as a destination point for visitors year round. We are thrilled to be a part of the local economic development and revitalization in the City of Cayce.”
