Midland DYB President Steve Knight issues statement after World Series win

Midland team and coaches in North Carolina, Thursday after win.

This evening the Midland Minors All Stars completed their journey to become the 2018 AAA DYB World Series Champions by defeating North Carolina by a score of 4-3.

During their entire run in the postseason, Midland was only defeated one time, and it came in the World Series. During this run, Midland outscore their opponents by a score of 228-24

What makes this even more special are the coaches, Matt Hornsby, Shawn Bennett and Lester Sharpe. Not only is this their 2nd World Series Championship in 3 years, but it is the amount of time and dedication that they put in to making these young men better baseball players, but more importantly, better young men outside of the lines.

Words cannot even begin to adequately describe how proud we are as a community, and ballpark of this entire team. I want to thank the players, coaches, but also the parents. The dedication that they have put in to having these young men reach their full potential is amazing.

This is the 6th World Series Championship for Midland, and our 3rd in 3 years. We say Midland Pride all day long, but what most people do not understand is that its not just a slogan, it is truly our way of life in our community. We take pride in everything we have and we are so very proud to bring this title back to Town of Pine Ridge! We truly are blessed in District 4 and have had amazing support from our neighbors in our District. Pineview DYB, CWC, Blythewood, Lexington and Gaston have been tremendous in rooting our kids on. Thats what makes our District so great. We are family.

We want to thank our District Director LaDonna Miller – Marshall for her support, as well as our State Director, Mr. Paul McCulloch. They have been amazing in their roles to support not only our District, but the entire State of South Carolina DYB.

In closing, I am extremely blessed. The tears flowed hard and often after the third out. Moments like this hit home hard and makes you realize that this is why we sacrifice so much of our time for these kids. The memories that were made will last a lifetime, and it makes all the long hours well worth it. There is nothing better than to see a young athlete succeed, and realize that dreams do come true. We do not believe in luck. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity, and we capitalized on it.
