Lexington County Coroner identifies 3 people after fatal incidents

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a motor vehicle accident. The accident  occurred in the 1800 block of South Lake Drive in the Red Bank area just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Fisher, Thomas L. Merritt, Jr., 62, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle while making a left turn on his motorcycle. Merritt was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred.
The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina

Fisher has also identified the individual found deceased in a residential structure fire that occurred on Sunday. The incident happened just after 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Hubbs Road, near Swansea.

According to Fisher, the only resident of the home, was Mr. Ian S. Gale, 79. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire. An autopsy, performed on Tuesday, determined that Gale died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The fire remains under investigation by SLED.

And Fisher has identified a woman who died early Monday morning in a house fire. The fire occurred in the 100 block of Richmond Farm Circle in Lexington.

Diana M. Jimenez died of asphyxiation, related to the fire, said Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher in a press release.
The fire occurred around 3 a.m. Monday. It is being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division. It is common procedure for SLED to investigate fire-related fatalities.
