Brian Watkins chosen as Cayce’s new city manager

Brian Watkins has been chosen by Cayce City Council as Cayce’s new city manager.

His first day in his job with Cayce will be Monday (July 23.) Watkins is stepping into the city manager’s role that was held by Rebecca Vance for seven years. Vance left Cayce in March for a management position in Dorchester County. She wanted to be closer to her aging parents. Rachelle Moody, assistant to the city manager was interim city manager while Cayce searched for Vance’s replacement.

According to City of Cayce Spokeswoman Ashley Hunter, Watkins has more than 12 years experience working in city government. He has 10 years of experience as a city manager. Before beginning his career in municipal government, Watkins worked on a U.S. Navy base.

Watkins comes to Cayce from the City of Milton, FL, where he has been city manager since 2008.

“We are excited to welcome Brian Watkins as the new City Manager for Cayce,” said Mayor Elise Partin. “His background and knowledge of local government and management as well as his military leadership will bring valuable experience and new ideas to our city. We are so proud to welcome him and look forward to having him on our team of talented and dedicated staff members”
Before being promoted to city manager in Milton, was the City of Milton’s public works director for two years.

According to Hunter, Watkins has extensive knowledge of local government administration. He also has extensive experience as a senior naval officer. Watkins served as a regional commander and base commander during a period of significant change in the Navy shore infrastructure management organization.

During his tenure as city manager, he gained experience developing strategic project management and community development plans as well as managing over $6 million in grants for the city. Brian is a graduate of Clemson University and holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
